ROLE DESCRIPTION

You’ll support people living with our conditions to develop autonomy and confidence in self-management, enabling them to engage fully in activities of their choosing and with their community.

You’ll provide specified support for the service user which will be dependent upon their individual goal(s).

  • Support with specific physical and/or everyday activities
  • Support with specific use of communication strategies

This may involve either one-to-one or small group support or a combination of both.

To undertake your role you will be required to undertake membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Adults) Scheme in Scotland (PVG).

ABOUT THIS ORGANISATION

Across Scotland, over 1 million people – that’s one in five of the population – are living with the effects of serious chest and heart conditions and stroke. By 2021 we will double the number of people we support so that more people can live life to the full. We will do this by providing vital advice, information, and support through our No Life Half Lived Support services across Scotland. These services include our Advice Line, Stroke Nurse Service, Rehabilitation Support Service, Health Information, Health Defence, Education and E-learning, Financial Advice & Support and our Peer Support Groups.

WHAT COULD YOU GAIN?

CHSS will provide a training package to support you in your role which will include:

  • An Introduction to Stroke
  • Supported Communication
  • Your Volunteer Role and Responsibilities
  • Dealing with Endings
  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Assisting with Mobility

WHERE?

Various locations across West of Scotland – volunteering can be done virtually and when it’s safe to do so face to face either in a group setting, in a service users home or in hospital.
